enfarm Agritech launches smart fertiliser IoT set

Using technology as an enabler for more advanced and inclusive development has always been a part of enSightful’s mission. In this process of innovation, we have turned our attention to the needs of important stakeholders such as farmers and food producers, determined to use our technology to address their needs.

These aspirations cultivated into the creation of enfarm Agritech, an agriculture technology company that uses Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enable farmers to make more informed decisions in their farming practice. Just this week, enfarm Agritech launched its pioneer product - a smart fertiliser IoT set that helps coffee growers determine the appropriate amount of nutrients their plants need.

The smart fertiliser IoT set leverages sensors and IoT to monitor soil conditions and determine the appropriate amount of fertiliser required for coffee plantations. enfarm Agritech's proprietary technology also determines the amount of irrigation water to suit each soil type; incorporates insights on weather, price forecasting, pest and disease diagnosis; and answers farmers' questions using artificial intelligence.

While fertiliser can help to increase farmers’ yield by up to 40%, it takes up a third of total production cost; in Vietnam, it is estimated that 6.6 million tonnes of fertiliser is unabsorbed annually, causing both monetary wastage and environmental harm (Source: Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development).

The technology developed by enfarm Agritech can potentially help farmers reduce fertiliser cost and increase yield by up to 20%. Reducing the amount of fertiliser that is wasted or ineffectively applied by farmers will also help to reduce the amount of harmful substances that go into the soil, lessening the harmful impacts of agricultural practices on the environment.

On the 19th of July, enfarm Agritech signed a partnership agreement with the Central Highlands Agro-Forestry Science and Technology Institute (WASI) to introduce its smart fertiliser IoT set to coffee farmers in the region. enfarm Agritech will collaborate closely with WASI to further experiment the effectiveness of the product; promote and distribute this technology to coffee farmers in the Central Highlands. With enfarm Agritech’s technology, any farmer can master agricultural techniques, capture market signals to increase income on their land, and develop more sustainable farming practices.

At the partnership agreement signing ceremony, enfarm Agritech’s representatives presented the rich evidence underlying the need for more effective application of fertiliser to crops, and how enfarm Agritech helps to resolve the existing challenges that farmers face. Co-founder and Chairman of enfarm Agritech, Mr. Nguyen Do Dzung, shared enfarm Agritech’s mission to revolutionise the agriculture industry of Vietnam with technology:

“There is no other industry that can touch the lives of as many as agriculture. However, the average income of a farmer is still very low, and their livelihood is often affected by weather and price fluctuations… In particular, although Vietnam’s coffee farmers contribute 70% of robusta production globally, coffee growers only get 2% of the value of a cup of coffee sold.

Technology can change all of that. This is the vision that enfarm Agritech seeks for the Vietnamese agricultural industry in general and the coffee industry in particular, the mission that we pursue.”

The smart fertiliser IoT set is only the beginning of many innovative solutions from enfarm Agritech and enCity. We look forward to more innovations in the coming years, to continuously transform cities and economies through innovation.
